Kitties Pillows

Cats sleeping comfortably together
Cat nap time

This type of cute pillow scene occurs quite often, highlighting the friendship between these companions. Max and Zuma have their moments of battling but then any kitty fight is quickly forgotten with this symbiosis. Similar with cat food, sometimes they wait and share but sometimes push each other away.

Taking care and being there for each other - healthy relationship. Makes you wonder what the kitties are thinking when they are preparing for a team nap. Sometimes they wake up and hiss/snarl, so there's probably no one right answer what is happening. Either way, nice to see them being so gentle.

Happy holiday night!

Do you have time for your cat? Your cat has time for you

Kitty wants attention

Some cat owners know that their attention is valued quite highly by our tiny meowing household members. The cats may like to stand in front of you when you are at your computer table. Occasionally, standing is the minimum that they do in an effort to have you look at them, play with them, give them some sort of feedback. Cat food is not always their priority.

I’m busy

It’s understandable that the owner likely shoo’s them away. We are probably busy or working on something important that requires our undivided concentration in the computer/internet realm. Well, are we so busy? Ten minutes before is probably when you already shoo’d your cat away. All the kitties want is for you to be aware of them, acknowledge them, show appreciation for their mere presence.

The cat re-connection

As soon as the cat dancing maneuvers are successful to grab your attention, or maybe you just had a consciousness-shifting moment, finally you let go of the feeling of time and world demands as you see your cat’s eyes. Staring back at you is a wave of unconditional love. You hear the purring, the cat humming, and occasionally the simultaneous yawn interrupted by a meow squeak.

Ahhhh, that deep-breath moment for both the cat and for you where everything is perfect. You are looking at each other. At some point, everyone has to come back to their clock-full, normal day. Please remember you can visit this bubble of time-lessness with your cat anytime you wish, they are ready for it. Health side-effects may include a brief stint of stress reduction.

Making a cat blog. I can see you but you can't see me yet.

I think that's my cat

The first several days of cat blog-making has felt administrative as we’ve been settling in the roots for all of the basics.

Account and social media basics

-    Creating accounts for popular social media and content sharing sites (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Blogger). Some of these integrate well with each other.
-
Create accounts for other necessities
o   Email to use for all other accounts and for communication (Gmail)
o   Website domain (godaddy)

Soon after it was clear what other areas needed account creation to synchronize much of the online media content. This linking would save a lot of time by having certain posts in one area (such as on the blog) re-post automatically in another area (like Facebook). Some of the social media sites already allow for accounts to be connected. These methods add convenience but really need to figure out certain issues such as redundant cross-posting and whether all aspects of a blog post can be re-posted or not (in other words, posting to YouTube which will automatically re-post to the Blog, but then will the video show up in an automatic Twitter re-post). There are many widgets and HTML modifiers out there that help with this. Fortunately minimal programming experience will work for the simple solutions (but still trying to figure some of them out).
-     -   IFTTT.com for automatic reposting
-     -   Feedburner

Next, we needed content-specific and viral-potential accounts to help distribute our message further. Cat related websites are good for this, such as Cheezburger. Other sites like BuzzFeed to try to catch extra viewers and sharing.

Editing content

We have lots of videos and pictures, plus planning to obtain much more. Thus, we need to process and edit all of this to make it into a presentable format for a general audience.  With almost no graphic design and other design experience, some of the basic and free software should work for us.
We started with VSDC and Windows Movie Maker for video editing. A combination of PhotoScape and FastStone Image Viewer for picture editing, as well as www.befunky.com for really cool image modification. The PhotoScape program is better than all of the previously mentioned movie and picture editors specifically to add Text to overlay on the files (with the most options of types of fonts and ways of editing various aspects of the letters/outline,etc.)

That’s where we are right now, with plenty of room to go forward...

Cat sees human companion far away. Or she doesn't see me?

Cats In Nature

Cats look out into the distance and observe an object moving. Future prey? Another predator? Something is in motion. The feline instinct is ready to kick-in for some running action.

Cats With Humans

This morning I glanced back at my apartment as I was going to work. I spotted Zuma on the balcony. I couldn’t tell if she was looking at me, but she must have seen the large object crawling away (my car driving further).

Can our pets recognize us when we are out in the distance? Cats know the can-opening and dry food shaking sounds well. The smell and sight that they have of us when playing, petting, and just being in the same room is strong. This interesting idea will be pursued for a future experiment (blog/video) to understand their connection and reaction to us when physical proximity increases...

Get ready to play with a new cat blog

Enjoy cat pictures, videos, & more creative content!

Kitties having fun with random stuff in the house
This stuff is clingy, still figuring out cat-blogging

While our blog posts and social media sites are being set up, here is the ABOUT US:

We, the bloggers, are Yev and Lana. Our career work is somewhere in the fields of environmental science and finances. After living in the oven of Arizona for the recent 10+ years, we are now in California near the beach. We enjoy funny movies, sport activities, and practicing mindfulness in every aspect of our lives.

Meet our kitties Max and Zuma. We adopted Max (aka Maxik) when he was 2 months old in the summer of 2008 from a friend with a full litter of kitties. It didn't take us long to come up with name for Max. To us he looked like Max and that was the end of that discussion. He was on his own for about a year and then looked like he was getting bored being by himself too much. Especially since we were busy in the middle of a Ph.D. degree and full-time working/schooling. We did what we could, took care of him, fed him high quality cat food. Ultimately, we decided to get him a sibling.

We rescued Zuma the following year (in 2009) from a petstore adoption. When we arrived at the store, there were only few kitties we could pick from. We spotted a Russian Blue type of kitten, naturally attracted to it, since it was similar to other cats earlier in our lives. That kitten looked very cute and elegant. We played around with it until Yev saw another kitten that caught his attention. The other one looked like it just took a bath in the dirt (this is Zuma). She was clean but visually had a mix of black, brown and dark orange colors. She had some black spots all over the little body. Her coloring design was not 'presentable' to take home as a 1st choice, considering it was all over her face, making it look like she got into a mess. But her playfulness and attraction to us was unforgettable as we just had to pick this little kitty. This is Zuma (or Zumka). It wasn’t instant but after all we succumbed to and fell in love with her appearance and beautiful face.

After growing up together for 5+ years, now Zumka and Maxik are ready to share and continue their adventures in the spotlight. Thank you for being in the journey with us.
